Interactive Heat Maps

These interactive maps are designed to highlight substance use rates among 8th and 11th graders in Delaware. Each tab in the interactive maps represents two years of Delaware School Survey data, and users can click between the two top tabs to see rates of use among 8th or 11th graders . Substance rates were collected using the Delaware School Survey data from 2019 and 2021.  Substance rates include past month rates of alcohol use, past two week binge drinking,  past month marijuana use, past month cigarette use, past year prescription drug use, and past year rates of prescription painkiller use are displayed by zip codes. In the most recent maps, the lighter yellow ZIP codes represent areas of lower reported use, while bolder dark orange ZIP codes represent areas of higher reported use. Below you will find two links to the Delaware maps. The first link will connect to the most recent story maps using 2019 and 2021 data. The second set of links provide interactive maps using 2014-2018 data.

*Due to data collection issues surrounding Covid-19 and school closures, 2020 data was not used in these maps.

Please note the following:

1) Due to Covid-19 and school closures only the 8th Grade Delaware School Survey was completed in 2020, because of this only 8th grade 2019-2020 heat maps were produced.

2) Cigarette use maps were not produced due to the low number of students reporting past month cigarette use, because of these low numbers it was not possible to provide an accurate estimate of cigarette use rates at the ZIP code level.
